Lilith Hasbeck

Service designer, design researcher,
graphic designer, and leader.

About me

When I was around 12 years old I decisively told my parents that I wanted to become a designer. And so I did. After I finished my postgraduate studies in Service Design at the Royal College of Art in London (named the world's best design school fifth year running) back in 2016, I headed home to Copenhagen, where I'm currently working as Head of User Research at Coloplast. On the side, I work for the Danish chapter of the Service Design Network where I recently joined the board.

Prior to specialising in service design, my background was in visual communication (graphic design) and co-design (design anthropology). I’ve previously worked at Livework (an East London service design agency), Policy Lab (at the Cabinet Office), and MindLab (a cross-governmental innovation lab in Copenhagen). Within these different settings, I've worked with service design, design research, visual communication, and bits of policy design. In practice, much of my work has centred on aspects of healthcare provision.

Through my time of both studying and practicing service design, I've come to understand that building design cases on a holistic understanding of people, relationships, and systems is the most important aspect of my discipline. I find its interdisciplinary nature and the combination of strategy, business, and creativity very inspiring, and I most certainly feel that designers have a role in the future of designing not only things but also intangibles — such as services and strategies.
As a designer, I value leaving the desk to explore new contexts and meet new people. I thrive when people expect the most of me and when I can exchange knowledge and collaborate with people; preferably in an interdisciplinary (perhaps even post-disciplinary?) setting.
